General description of the target population The target population was a group of 16 students from the second year of “Diplomado en Inglés” from Universidad Nacional, Sede Chorotega, Campus Liberia. There are 9 women and 7 men, and their ages range from 18 to 26 years. These students began their major in 2015 and are currently taking the course LLI 210 Gramática Intermedia in the second semester of 2016. They will finish their major in 2016.. They were chosen because their grammar diagnostic test revealed that some of them had some problems in grammar. In addition, in the needs assessment instrument applied to them, some students wrote that they had problems in English grammar. Instruments results and diagnosis process To obtain an objective point of view about the problematic and its proposal to solve the problem, it was necessary to implement two diagnostic instruments to know the specific details about the population and its development in the grammar learning process. The first instrument assessed the students’ grammar knowledge through exercises or activities that addressed the different macro skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). The second instrument assessed the students’ needs, lacks, and wants in terms of English language learning. In addition, the second instrument also gathered information about the students’ opinions in relation to the way they have been taught, the way they would like to be taught, and the way they practice English. The previous aspects are important to support not only different macro skills but also grammar; for this reason, supporting the grammar knowledge with a variety of activities as the ones provided by the students is a need that these instruments emerged by their application in this group.
